The week's festivities are coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean that Hamar is holding back on the excitement!

A visit from the general assembly

There was a special boost in today’s audience as we got a very pleasant visit from the general assembly of the Norwegian Association of University Sports. They clearly enjoyed the thrilling races in “Vikingskipet”. Everyone smiled from ear to ear, and cheered the participants on as they went by.

Womens, 500 meters

The first competition for friday was the women’s 500 meters, and it was bound to go fast. It’s the shortest distance, meaning we would witness the fastest times this week. The winner of this exhilirating race was Julie Nistad Samonsen from Norway with an impressive time of 39.42. Seen as this was her favorite distance, it didn’t come as a big surprise for the audience.

Mens, 500 meters

We got treated with a another great 500 meter race, but this time, it was the men who served us the goods. In first place came a known face for many - none other than Marek Kania from Poland stepped foot on the podium, once again. This was his third gold medal of the championship.

Womens, team pursuit

For the very first time this week we found a team competition on the programme. The women’s team pursuit was the first of two team races. The Norwegians Marte Bjerkreim Furnée, Kari-Celine Reiss-Jacobsen and Hanna Svenni were the three with the gold medals around their neck. Following Norway was Czech Republic and Poland in respectively in second and third place.

Following the success of the Norwegian ladies, the men could only aspire to do as good - and so they did! John Granli, Kasper Tveter and Sander Tveter raced well and made sure the Norwegian flag was raised under the medal ceremony.
